Environment
and Sustainability

In the construction and fit-out industry, waste is a known challenge. At Interite, we believe every project is an opportunity to do better.

Sustainability Initiatives

As part of our broader commitment to social responsibility, diversity, and reconciliation, we are committed to building respectful, meaningful relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This includes engaging with Indigenous job seekers, businesses, and stakeholders to support employment, collaboration, and reconciliation.

  • Prioritising low-VOC, non-toxic materials for healthier indoor air quality.
  • Using FSC-certified timber and sustainably sourced products where possible.
  • Selecting durable, long-life finishes to reduce the need for frequent replacements.
  • Prioritising green accreditation when sourcing products.
  • We deliver spaces that can adapt over time, reducing the need for future demolition and fit-outs
  • Our design team are recognised for finding new sustainable products and specifying them where applicable
  • We look for opportunities where furniture items can be re-used / repurposed on projects
  • We work with a Sustainability Consultant who makes recommendations and identifies the most sustainable products and materials, throughout the design process.
  • Integrating passive design principles such as natural lighting, airflow and insulation into early planning stages.
  • Specifying energy-efficient lighting, HVAC systems and appliances in line with Green Star or NABERS targets.
  • We focus on rigorous recycling efforts and the most effective and safe methods of disposal of potentially harmful building materials existing on every site.
  • Partnering with demolition and construction contractors who actively reduce landfill waste through material recovery and recycling (e.g. Masterson’s 4R strategy, Greenway’s EMS).
  • Tracking and reporting waste diversion on project sites as part of our internal sustainability reporting.

Conscious Construction

We’re committed to conscious construction through responsible waste removal, smart recycling practices and collaboration with partners who share our values. With the help of contractors like Masterson’s Demolition and Greenway Demolition, we’re driving real change on-site.

Masterson’s

Masterson’s implements a 4R strategy; Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Recover. With this strategy, they have already achieved a 90%+ recycling rate and are on track to reach their Zero Hero Goal of 95%+ landfill diversion rate by 2030.

Greenway Demolition

Greenway Demolition integrates an Environmental Management System into their operations and consistently maintains a 70%+ recycle rate. Their focus on contaminated soil remediation and Better Building Practices supports a cleaner, healthier future.
