In response to growing service needs, Kalwun Development Corporation sought to transform a former office space and small playgroup tenancy in Burleigh Heads, into a multifunctional hub for their Child, Youth and Family Services Centre. Previously operating from smaller, disconnected tenancies, Kalwun needed a purpose-built environment that could unite their operations under one roof, while celebrating their strong connection to culture and community.

Interite collaborated closely with Kalwun to design and construct a 750m² space tailored to the needs of both staff and clients. The new facility features three key zones: a reimagined playgroup area, welcoming front-of-house meeting spaces for family consultations, and a modern office environment with traditional work points and flexible layouts. Practical inclusions such as dedicated laundry facilities and extensive storage ensure the space supports Kalwun’s diverse community programs and outreach work.

The design reflects Kalwun’s cultural identity through warm finishes and Indigenous artwork that foster connection and belonging. The result is a practical, culturally grounded space that supports Kalwun in delivering vital services to families and the community.
